Study Painting: Morning Shore, Salmon Lake

'Morning Shore, Salmon Lake - Study' (2012) by Jamie Kapitain.

‘Morning Shore, Salmon Lake – Study’ (2012) by Jamie Kapitain. Oil on canvas board, 8×10 inches.

This study was created in the studio from photos I took on an early morning canoe ride. I like how the level of detail remains consistent as your eye starts in the shallow water and runs up and along the shore. The water of Salmon Lake is very clear and before the wind comes up, the underwater world is almost as vivid as above water.

This is a lovely scene, Jamie. It reminds me of quiet mornings at Johnston Lake in Quebec where my husband’s parents had a cottage. This painting looks a lot like the point at the mouth of their bay.
