Sketch: Salmon Lake Shoreline

July 25, 2012
'Salmon Lake Shoreline' sketch by Jamie Kapitain

‘Salmon Lake Shoreline’ by Jamie Kapitain. Ink and watercolor in Moleskine sketchbook.

For this sketch, I worked from a photograph I took on one of my regular, early-morning canoe outings. Sitting alone on the lake before other cottagers start to stir is a very intimate experience with the landscape. You discover small details in the shoreline and hear sounds that are usually lost to the noises of the day – laughing children, barking dogs and boat motors. Below is a painting I did in 2005 that came from a similar morning paddle.
