Desmond Juried Art Exhibition and Sale

July 13, 2011

Opening this weekend, I’m excited to have two paintings (see below) in the annual Desmond Juried Art Exhibition and Sale in Ridgetown, Ontario. The show theme is ‘small towns and rural living in Canada’ and runs from July 18 to July 28 at the University of Guelph Ridgetown Campus.

'June Evening, Wellington County' (2011) by Jamie Kapitain. Oil on canvas, 18x24 inches.

The painting titled ‘June Evening, Wellington County’ captures the vivid colors of a summer evening just outside of Guelph, Ontario. You can see the study painting here.

'Three Winter Birches' (2011) by Jamie Kapitain. Oil on canvas, 24x36 inches.

The painting ‘Three Winter Birches’ represents an evolution in my work with the addition of wildlife. This isn’t a celebration of wildlife as much as it is a depiction of a ‘complete’ landscape. The viewer is drawn into the landscape from the three foreground birches, along the lines of the shadows to discover three deer.

I love how I am drawn into ‘June Evening, Wellington County.’ It is such a vibrant painting. It makes me wonder what’s beyond the horizon. I would have liked to attend the show, but will be out of country. Is this painting for sale?

Cameron, thanks for the feedback. I’m very happy with how ‘June Evening’ turned out. This painting is $900.
