Paintings Dominate The Most Expensive Sales

May 2, 2010

'Winter Birches, Mono Cliffs No. 2', 48x60 inches, oil on canvas. By Jamie Kapitain

In an infographic on GOOD’s website titled The 10 Most Expensive Pieces of Art Ever Sold, paintings account for 9 of the 10. Alberto Giacometti’s sculpture Walking Man I leads the list ahead of paintings by Picasso, Monet, Van Gogh and the rest of the who’s who of great painters.

As a painter, I like the dominance of paintings in the art world but let’s get the number one spot back from the sculptors. If you are an art patron who wants to put a canvas back on top, I would be willing to offer the above painting for the cause. I’ll take one for the team.
