Bird Study Sketches

March 3, 2010

Recently I sketched multiple bird studies and it took me back to the animal behavior courses in my ecology program at the University of Western Ontario. While I focus on trees in the landscapes I paint, I am very aware of the impressive diversity that resides in the forests. It’s the existence of a complex ecosystem with its flora and fauna that adds intrigue and purpose to capturing Ontario landscapes in my paintings. I am motivated by the goal of reconnecting people to the landscape in an effort to influence discussions around such issues as urban sprawl, deforestation and sustainable development.

I’d love to see a bird incorporated into one of your paintings. I guess it goes against your regular aesthetic. Great sketches.

Thanks Cameron. It’s true that I haven’t included wildlife in my work but you never know what might end up on my canvases in the future.
